How this one fails

What we find on U-Line

U-Line units live in the worst thermal positions in the house: enclosed islands, cabinet runs beside dishwashers, bars with no airflow behind them. That context explains most of what we find. A clear ice machine producing cloudy cubes is usually being asked to work in an ambient temperature it was never specified for, and moving the problem is sometimes a better answer than replacing a part.

  • Ice machine producing cloudy or hollow cubes in an enclosed island with no airflow
  • Undercounter fridge cycling constantly beside a dishwasher that vents into the same cavity
  • Drain pump failed on a unit installed below the waste line
  • Door seal deformed where the unit sits against a cabinet stile
  • Wine unit condensing on the inside of the glass in a humid basement bar

Everything I baked came out pale and slow. He put a thermometer in and showed me it was running well under what the dial claimed. Sensor rather than element, which he said is the usual answer and the cheaper one.

Twenty two years old and I had been told by someone else it was finished. He cleared a condenser that had never been touched, replaced two hardened gaskets, and it has held temperature since. Honest about what was worth doing and what was not.

Cooling fan kept running for an hour after every cycle. Not broken exactly, but not right either. He traced it to a thermostat telling the fan the cavity was still hot. Small fix, and he treated it as worth doing properly.

Independent, and clear about it

We are not authorised by U-Line and we do not claim to be. We fit parts made to the manufacturer's specification, we diagnose before we quote, and the $95 service call comes off the repair once you approve it.
